The average home in metropolitan Australia now costs buyers $600,000, after a yearly rise of 13 per cent.
In the December 2013 quarter, the median house price across all Australian metropolitan cities hit $598,000, as stated in a report from Bendigo Bank and the Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA).
That figure was 13.1 per cent higher than the same time the previous year.
The report gave the following figures for the capital cities:
Melbourne: Median house price – $643,000 (21.9 per cent annual growth)
Sydney: $763,000 (15.1 per cent growth)
Perth: $535,000 (7 per cent)
Brisbane: $465,000 (5.7 per cent)
Darwin: $610,000 (5.5 per cent)
Adelaide: $410,000 (2.5 per cent)
Hobart: $370,00 (1.4 per cent)
